Become a Teacher : School Direct with Cheshire Vale TSA in partnership with LJMU

What is School Direct?

School Direct is a school-led route for teacher training, within the Cheshire Vale Teaching School Alliance in partnership with LJMU which offers practical, hands-on training; the course has very high rates of employment and trainee satisfaction. Upon completion of the course you will be awarded a PGCE with QTS.

The Cheshire Vale TSA is a group of 28 Secondary and Primary schools plus HEI providers and key partners from across Cheshire and the Wirral including Chester, Northwich, The Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Helsby and rural Cheshire and can provide a variety of teaching experiences in a range of schools.

As an Alliance it is our mission to provide high quality, school based initial teacher training. We know our provision ensures trainees feel fully prepared for life in the classroom and a career in teaching. Trainee Teachers will have the benefit of working with a strong alliance of schools during their training year. You will train in one of our alliance schools, listed below, who have a strong history of highly successful teacher-training, where you will receive intensive support from experienced teachers and mentors.

    Your School Direct Programme will consist of a combination of classroom practice and high quality training from experienced school staff and LJMU tutors. You will be given the opportunity to spend much of your time 'improving your teaching and students learning experiences' with high quality school placements from across our Teaching School Alliance.

    Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE)

    We will be offering SKE courses in specific subjects in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University. SKE subject Courses and start dates will be announced soon. Further information on SKE courses can be found here:

    How do I apply?

    Applications to School Direct are made through UCAS. Click the following link to the UCAS Teacher Training search tool and under Training Provider enter Cheshire Vale Teaching School Alliance (School Direct) where you will find all our courses listed. Cheshire Vale Teaching School Alliance (School Direct).

    Entry requirements for all courses are a 2:2 (Hons) in a related subject and 2:1 (Hons) for PE plus grade C/4 or above in GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths (and a minimum of a grade C/4 in Science for Primary courses). For Maths and Physics courses please check the course profile for additional information. All applicants must also pass the QTS Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy prior to being offered a place.

    Fees for School Direct are £9,250 (Subject to change). However, several subjects offer bursaries to help towards these fees. The bursary information can be found here
